Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern use of oisurf.com, operated by Sydtech, LLC ("OISurf," "we," "us"). By using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it. Questions: guru@gosydtech.com.

1. The service

OISurf provides public marine and weather forecasts, regional buoy observations, station-based tide predictions, maps and experimental surf-window ratings for supported locations. Coverage is limited to the directory. Famous international map landmarks do not necessarily have forecasts. The current service requires no account; display preferences and personal visit counts remain in your browser. Optional sign-in lets you save favorites across devices; signed-out favorites remain browser-local.

The service is intended for people aged 13 or older. If you are under the legal age of majority where you live, use it with a parent or guardian's permission.

2. Forecast limitations and water safety

OISurf is a planning aid, not a safety, navigation, emergency-warning or professional advisory service. Do not rely on it as your only source when deciding whether to enter the water.

• Modeled significant wave heights describe offshore conditions, not measured breaking surf. Maps and beach coordinates are approximate.
• Ratings are experimental and uncalibrated. A favorable or green rating does not mean safe conditions or guarantee good surf.
• Buoy measurements come from a different offshore location. Fields may have different observation times or be missing.
• NOAA tide predictions are astronomical estimates relative to the named station and height datum. Actual water levels and beach timing may differ; these predictions do not measure rip currents, storm surge or safe swimming conditions.
• Data may be delayed, cached, incomplete, inaccurate or unavailable. Weather, currents, lightning, hazards and closures can change quickly.

Check beach flags, lifeguard advice, closures and official weather warnings. Use your judgment and equipment appropriate to your ability. In an emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency service.

3. Acceptable use

Use the site lawfully. Do not attempt unauthorized access, bypass access controls or rate limits, introduce malicious code, impersonate others, interfere with visitors or overwhelm the site or upstream providers.

Contact us before substantial automated collection, commercial redistribution or integration so access limits and data licenses can be addressed. These terms do not restrict rights already granted under applicable open-data or open-source licenses.

4. Accounts, privacy and payments

Optional Google sign-in is supported when configured; email registration is not yet active. For accounts, provide accurate information, use an account you are authorized to access and protect your credentials. Report suspected unauthorized use to the contact below. We may reasonably restrict access to address abuse, security issues or legal obligations.

The current public release has no paid subscription or payment processing. Future paid plans will display prices, billing terms and cancellation information before purchase. These terms do not authorize charges. Our Privacy Policy explains current information handling and planned account data use.

Community surf reports

Signed-in visitors may submit public surf reports under a generated alias. Share honest observations of the selected spot, use the stated wave-face height convention and observation time, and do not present estimates as verified measurements. Reports are community contributions, not OISurf forecasts, safety advice or endorsements.

Do not post spam, advertising, harassment, illegal content, other people’s personal information or material you do not have the right to share. You retain rights in your original notes and grant OISurf permission to store, display and moderate your submitted report to operate this feature. You can delete your report; copies previously made by others and retained backups may remain. We may limit submissions, hide or remove reports and restrict abusive accounts. Use the flag control or contact support about concerns.

5. Content and third-party services

Rights in original OISurf branding, design and content remain with their owners. Third-party data and materials remain subject to their respective rights and licenses. Preserve required attribution when permitted reuse is involved.

Sources include Open-Meteo and NOAA; map geometry derives from public-domain Natural Earth data. Inclusion does not imply endorsement. Third-party websites and services have their own terms and policies; we do not control their availability or content.

6. Availability, warranties and liability

We may change, maintain or discontinue features or limit access to protect the service. We do not promise uninterrupted availability, particular accuracy, a particular surf outcome or permanent retention of browser preferences.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided "as is" and "as available," without express or implied warranties, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or noninfringement. To that extent, OISurf and Sydtech, LLC are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses arising from use of or inability to use the service.

Nothing excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, or removes mandatory consumer rights. You remain responsible for your activities and water-safety decisions.

7. Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the service changes, publish the effective date here and give additional notice where required for material changes. Continued use after an update takes effect is subject to the revised terms to the extent permitted by law.
